The entrance to the old Greenwood Cemetery is flanked by two stone columns. The Cemetery dates to 1840 and was originally a burial ground for the Van Zandt family- a founding family in East Texas.
Scottsville Cemetery is thought to be one of the most beautiful private cemeteries in Texas. Peter & Betty Scott Youree dedicated the stone chapel in 1904 in memory of their only child, William who died at a young age.
Stagecoach Road is 5 1/2 miles northeast of Marshall at Texas 43 and Pine Bluff Road.
The historic portion of Stagecoach Road is an eight mile stretch that begins at the end of East Popular St. in Marshall and comes out near Hwy. 43 in Karnack. The old stagecoach route is a narrow dirt road that sometimes sits twelve feet below the tree base levels. Before the Civil War, the stage road was the main transportation artery between Marshall and Shreveport, providing a link with New Orleans and distant markets.
Open by appointment only, the research center provides opportunities to explore the past of Harrison County and Texas. As a county history preservation and research center, we collect, preserve, and make available photographs, documents, books and artifacts related to the history of Harrison County and Texas. The Inez Hatley Hughes Research Center is part of the Harrison County Historical Museum.
The Depot is a centerpiece of Marshall’s efforts to preserve its heritage. The Depot and the railroad museum anchor the north end of Washington Ave., the main street in downtown Marshall.
Located at the corner of Lafayette and Houston Street, the Madi Art Wall, created by artist Volf Roitman, was a gift to the City Of Marshall from the Michelson Museum and Edmund & Anna Wood. Construction of the Wall, supervised by Curtis Graff, was completed in December of 2009. Come and see it!
